The recent Trains, Planes and Automobiles auction may not have involved too many Brits (save, perhaps, the night owls), but as usual, some interesting lots surfaced in the Antipodes.
Lot 32 was a Matchbox No.59 Ford Thames Singer Van, in the usual pale green with grey plastic wheels. An excellent example, it sold for AUS $90. In contrast, the Micro Models GB/21 Holden Panel Van Taxi Truck, in blue, was something different. Although exhibiting some paint loss and wear to its labels, enough people wanted it and it finally settled on AUS $180.
Early Dinky Toys always go down well and the No.161 pre-war Mobile Anti-aircraft Unit was no exception. Containing the troop lorry with searchlight and figures (glued in), as well as the travelling platform with gun, it was in good condition, with only very slight paint loss on some edges, although some tyres were flat with age. A very good original box helped push this set to AUS $600.
On to railways: a Bassett-Lowke BL99024 O-gauge 2/3-rail BR A3 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, the "Flying Scotsman" detailed No.60103 and finished in green was untested, but appeared to be unrun. Excellent and in an excellent box, this closed on AUS $1,800.
A Hornby Series O gauge clockwork No.1 Special Southern 0-4-0 Locomotive and Tender, No.179, was also finished in green. It came with key, had been tested and was working. A little tired and with some paint loss and rust, it nonetheless sold for AUS$ 230.
