Bellmans sale highlights

The recent Bellmans auction was well attended and a wide variety of collectables went under the hammer, with vintage tinplate attracting a lot of interest. Of note was a West German Arnold  tinplate KLM Flying Dutchman friction drive aeroplane, a model that dated from around 1950. KLM, as some might know, is the world’s oldest airline - and this delightful reminder of times past, at 47cm long, was boxed and landed safely on £190.

On the home front, a good Tri-ang Minic 'Minic Transport' clockwork short bonnet shutter van, boasting green livery and complete with its box (although with a flat tyre), realised £55.

From the UK to the Far East and a Cragstan model of a convertible gas guzzler. This battery powered 1962 tinplate Cadillac was resplendent in red and came boxed, for good measure. Japanese renditions of American automotive excesses always seem to do well, and this one was no different, the hammer falling finally on £240.

Finally, for locomotive buffs, the stunning O gauge scratch built electric locomotive and tender in 4-6-0 configuration, was simply delightful. Finished in Royal Air Force green livery, and bearing the number 46159, this 46cm replica found a new engine shed for £160.
