Rock ‘n roll at Vectis!

A couple of recent Vectis sales revealed that the market for railways and soft toys remains quite buoyant. Amongst the latter, special mention should be made of the A J Collinson & Son wooden, dapple grey rocking horse, which dated from around 1950. Not many households have these icons today and this example had been professionally restored by The Toy Factory, Preston Hall Museum, in Stockton. With amber and black glass eyes, an open mouth, flared nostrils and a real horse hair mane and tail, he was dressed in a leather saddle and bridle and mounted on a trestle rocker. Described as near mint, at 36" high and 46" long, he was an imposing equine. Slated to make up to £300, he galloped off to realise £624.

On to rails, and a Hubner O Gauge 2-6-0 DR Class 91 Tank Loco, No.91 1013, which required a little gentle cleaning but was otherwise in excellent condition and contained in a plain card box for protection. It proved attractive to bidders, the hammer finally falling on £720.

Elsewhere, an Accucraft G Gauge Ref MS0082 0-4-0 Tank Loco (Edrig) in green was a live steam example. It appeared unused although its boiler test certificate was dated March 2006. Estimated at £300-360, this sturdy companion trundled away to make £648.

You couldn’t miss the Hornby O Gauge 4-6-2 Loco and Tender LMS in maroon livery bearing the Princess Elizabeth logo. No.6201, in 3-rail electric format, the loco had replacement front buffers, cross heads and pony/bogie wheels. Deemed excellent, this popular engine had a final sale price of £1,680.

Finally, the Lombardi O Gauge SBB (Switzerland) green livery crocodile overhead electric loco (No.12251) was a tad unusual. The auctioneer noted that some work had been carried but its excellent condition pulled in the train spotters. This one almost doubled its pre-sale estimate to make £1,020.
