Land speed cars races off
The Vectis Specialist & General Toy sale held on 18 January included no fewer than ten private owner collections – is the tide turning and are other investment areas being sought out, one wonders…
Games Workshop and Warhammer figures featured in the sale, as did some lesser-known (and seen) marques. A Western Models 1/43 scale white metal model of Campbell’s Rolls Royce Bluebird from 1933 (that could have benefited from more detailed cleaning) was described as otherwise being excellent. In a good card box, it powered off to make £312, way over estimate. Likewise, the Western Models 1/43 scale model of the 1929 Golden Arrow Record Car in metallic gold with detached steering wheel, was near mint in a good card box. The upper guideline of £60 was easily surpassed , the model realising £240.
A tinplate group including a Walt Disney Film Strip Lantern, a Merry Ball Blower Circus Car and a Cowboy on a Horse were in generally good to excellent condition, in generally fair boxes. A lowish £40 was felt enough to secure this set but they marched off to realise £144.
There were also Russian-made diecasts. One group included makes such as RAF and Moskvitch, plus others, and there were Police and Service vehicles present. Conditions were excellent to mint and all had good boxes. Russian material is fairly scarce over here, which may have accounted for the hammer finally falling on £360, against an upper estimate of £60.
