Jellycat is a brand of plush toys known for their incredibly soft and quirky designs. Loved by children but also by adults and collectors alike. With themes running from animals and fruits to whimsical creatures.
Jellycat is popular amongst collectors because of extensive variety of plushies, there are classic stuffed animals as well as food with smiley faces!
Each toy is ethically made, and the brand prioritise quality materials, strict sustainability rules and all materials are ethically sourced.
Fun fact: the plural of Jellycat is still Jellycat!
Having been around my whole childhood and into my adulthood, Jellycat is clearly doing something right. Here is everything you need to know about the adored plushie brand.
Why are Jellycat so popular?
Even though the brand has been around for 25 years, the company has had a recent surge in popularity on TikTok and Instagram. Yes, it was popular during the early 2000s but only as children’s stuffed animals.
Since then, they have expanded their stock and started to include different foods and objects as happy teddies. Because of this, collectors of the brand enjoy sharing their collections online, sharing unboxing videos and hunting for specific styles (often searching for one’s people think are ugly!).
Have a hobby? Well then you can find a teddy of that activity in no time. A few of my favourites being the Amuseables Surfboard, Amuseables Tennis Ball and the Amuseables Football.

Jellycat Fish and Chip Shop
Something else that has surged the popularity of the brand was the unique way the company set up stores and how they sell their toys.
At Selfridges, they have opened a fish and chip shop. Yep, you heard my right, a fish and chip shop where they cook you your favourite plush food. Obviously, they don’t actually cook the plush teddies, but the staff really get into character when serving you the British delicacy.
You can find the fish and chip van on the 4th floor toy shop of Selfridges. The items are perfect for collectors as three of the items can only be bought at the van: the Lily Fish, the Cosy Chips and Dot and Peg Mushy Peas.
With every order, buyers receive an exclusive merchandise pack with enamel pins and sticker sheets. Hopefully for the collector, these exclusive additions could increase in value over the next five to ten years.
This isn’t the only exclusive experience the Jellycat brand holds, they also have the Jellycat Diner in New York, the Patisserie in Paris and the Café in Shanghai. The dream for collectors if they want to collect all the exclusive experience plushies.
What is the most expensive Jellycat?
Many find the exclusive event Jellycat to be the most expensive ones as it comes with the experience of the fish and chip shop, so people feel the price is worth it. However, there are other older and rarer Jellycat that are worth more money now.
Some rival the price of designer handbags now and that doesn’t include the second-hand market. Jellycat have started to make gigantic versions of their most famous products. This includes the Gigantic Amuseable Rainbow, the Gigantic Bashful Puppy and the Gigantic Bashful Beige Bunny. These are all sold at £750.
The most expensive of them all, straight from the brand website, is the Gigantic Sacha Snow Tiger (standing at 104cm tall) which costs a whopping £1,200.
If you are looking for the cheaper option, these are the options I suggest:
- The Amuseable Happy Boiled Egg (£15)
- Vivacious Vegetable Aubergine (£15)
- Amuseable Peanut (£18)
- Amuseable Boiled Egg Geek (£20)
How to Spot a Fake Jellycat
The main areas to focus on when spotting a fake Jellycat are the tag, the stitching, plush material and overall craftsmanship.
Real plushies comes with both a fabric and a card tag on them, fake ones only tend to come with a fabric one. If a fake one comes with both tags, check for spelling, grammar and an inconsistent font to usual.
Authentic Jellycat has neat and tidy stitching with no loose threads or visible stitch lines. The overall appearance of them looks neater and well put together, with amazing attention to detail.
If it is genuine it will be made of soft and high-quality materials, the colours will also be bright and consistent with the product description and images. Lastly, be aware of exceedingly low prices, as this will indicate a fake.
