As Women’s History Month ends, we’re reminded that celebrating women’s achievements, resilience, and voices should never be limited to just one month. And Barbie makes sure to do this with their Barbie’s Inspiring Women series.
Campaigns like Barbie’s Inspiring Women series show how powerful representation can be. It spotlights trailblazers who have shaped history and continues to inspire the next generation to dream bigger, push boundaries, and believe in their potential.
March may be ending, but the impact of women past, present, and future continues every single day. Let’s keep telling their stories, lifting each other up, and creating space for more to be written.
The Inspiring Women Series
The Inspiring Women line began on International Women’s Day 2018 and honours historical female role models who were featured in the #morerolemodels campaign. Over the years, Mattel has continued to expand this collection, selecting women whose legacies embody courage, ambition, and lasting influence. Every new addition serves as a reminder that history is full of remarkable women whose stories deserve to be celebrated all year long.
Every year, more Barbies get added to this series, and so far, this year they have released the Opal Lee figure. Known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” Lee worked tirelessly to make Juneteenth a federal holiday.

This is an accomplishment that highlights the power of perseverance and advocacy.
Her inclusion in the line reflects Barbie’s commitment to spotlighting women across different backgrounds, cultures, and fields who have made a meaningful impact on society.
Mattel stated that this series “pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time; courageous women who took risks, changed rules, and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before.”
Each doll captures not only the likeness of these women but also the essence of their journeys along with the challenges they faced, the barriers they broke, and the paths they forged for others to follow.
They all come in display packaging with information about their trials and tribulations and what makes them so incredible on the back of the box. This makes them wonderful gifts for children and collectors alike to cherish for years to come.

More than just toys or collectables, these dolls become tangible reminders of the extraordinary real women who changed the world, encouraging conversations at home, in classrooms, and beyond.
Other examples include Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Florence Nightingale, Susan B. Anthony, Ida B. Wells and Venus Williams. And that is only a handful of the amazing heroines featured in this series.

Some of the dolls released in the first wave in 2018 are now worth a significant amount more than others on the secondary market due to their collector status and limited availability.
The Frida Kahlo doll can be listed at over £300 when they are mint condition, this is because she is sold out at retail and happened to face licencing disputes in some regions, adding to her scarcity.
While Amelia Earhart is not too far behind being valued at £290-£300. This is because she is one of the earliest releases and are no longer sold in retail stores.

Women’s History Month, Every Month
Looking ahead, the Inspiring Women series continues to evolve, ensuring that influential women from all walks of life are recognised.
Whether they revolutionised science, changed laws, created cultural movements, or used their voices to shift perspectives, each one represents a piece of history worth preserving and celebrating.
And as new figures are announced each year, the collection becomes a growing testament to the strength and brilliance of women everywhere.
Barbie’s ongoing commitment to representation reminds us that empowering the next generation starts with visibility. When children see someone who looks like them, thinks like them, or dreams like them, they realise that greatness is achievable.
Women’s History Month may come once a year, but the mission to uplift, acknowledge, and honour women is something that should continue long after the calendar page turns.
