Royal Mail has released a special commemorative stamp collection to honour what would have been the 100th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

Issued on April 21, 2026, the collection pays tribute to Britain’s longest‑reigning monarch and marks the centenary of her birth with a carefully curated set of images that reflect both her public service and personal passions.

The release is intended to celebrate a life defined by duty, continuity, and national significance.

The collection comprises 12 stamps in total, including eight main stamps alongside a four‑stamp miniature sheet. Together, they present a visual narrative of Queen Elizabeth II’s life and legacy, capturing significant milestones that shaped her reign and her enduring relationship with the British public.

Several stamps highlight monumental occasions that remain etched in public memory. Among them is an image from the iconic balcony appearance following her coronation in 1953, a moment that symbolised the beginning of a new Elizabethan era and remains one of the most recognisable scenes of the 20th century.

Another features her 1940 radio broadcast, delivered when she was just 14 years old, which offered reassurance to children evacuated during the Second World War and marked one of her first public addresses to the nation.

The collection also reflects Queen Elizabeth II’s wartime service, including her involvement with the Territorial Army during the final years of the Second World War.

This period of her life is remembered as a formative experience that shaped her deep sense of responsibility and discipline, qualities that later defined her approach to her role as monarch.

By including this aspect of her early service, the stamps acknowledge her contribution beyond ceremonial duties.

Alongside these historic and official moments, the stamps also explore the more personal dimensions of the Queen’s life. Images celebrating her lifelong love of horses and dogs are featured prominently, highlighting interests that remained constant throughout her reign.

Known for her expertise in horse breeding and her affection for corgis, these elements offer a reminder of the individual behind the crown and present a more intimate portrayal of a figure often seen through the lens of tradition and formality.

David Gold, Director of External Affairs and Policy at Royal Mail, described the collection as a tribute to a monarch whose commitment to duty was without parallel.

He stated that the stamps tell the story of “a very public life of dedicated service, and a more private passion for dogs and horses,” emphasising the balance between responsibility and personal fulfilment that characterised Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

His remarks underline Royal Mail’s intention to present a rounded and respectful commemoration.

The stamp collection has been designed not only as a philatelic release but also as a historical keepsake, appealing to collectors and admirers of the Royal Family alike.
