In 1979, the original Incredible Hulk stretch toy was created. Someone who knew a worker from the production company bought one of the first stretchy Hulks off the production line. No one has resold the product since. Auctioneers now believe this toy will sell for up to £5,000.
The Auction Sale
Toy-maker Denys Fisher produced the toy and Thorp Arch in West Yorkshire manufactured it. The company sold it in limited quantities only in the UK. Denys Fisher produced thirty original examples of this Hulk and this item is said to be one of them. Classed as one of the rarest stretch toys in existence and is about to go under the hammer for the first time.

Excalibur Auctions in Hertfordshire have the privilege of offering this Hulk for sale. They have said it came with its original instructions and original packaging. The flap of the box includes a handwritten "number one" and is considered to be in mint condition.
The colour and vibrancy of the yellow packaging has not faded. The look of the original figure itself means it has never been played with post production.
The auction house expects to get world-wide interest. They estimate it to go for £3,000 to £5,000 at Excalibur Auctions on the 26 July.
What are the origins of the Incredible Hulk?
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1962. The Incredible Hulk is a fictional character that appears in comics published by Marvel Comics. Stan Lee says his inspiration for the character was a combination of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Frankenstein. Lee has also compared Hulk to the Golem of Jewish mythology.
Authors of The Science of Superheroes, Gresh and Weinberg see the Hulk as a reaction to the Cold War. This links to other media created at the time and takes advantage of the opinions of Americans. Americans thought that nuclear power could produce monsters and mutants.
Lee gave The Hulk's alter ego the name Bruce Banner. This was only because he found he had less difficulty remembering names that were alliteration.
He is a large green monster that has superhuman strength and an out of control rage. The fans of Hulk know him as hyper aggressive and brutal, while also being clever and scheming.
