SARK’S SCENERY AND ISLAND LIFE TO FEATURE ON STAMPS

Guernsey Post’s philatelic bureau will release a new set of commemorative stamps celebrating the island of Sark, the third stamp issue dedicated to the island. The collection, An Artist’s View, showcases Sark’s distinctive landscapes, landmarks and rural traditions through a series of watercolour paintings by Sark-based artist Louise Hill (stamp issue date: 1 April 2026).

Nestled in the heart of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, Sark is a small but remarkable island covering just over two square miles. Its peaceful character is preserved through a unique approach to transport – there are no cars on the island. Among its most recognisable landmarks is La Coupée, the narrow isthmus linking Sark with Little Sark, and one of the Channel Islands’ most striking natural features.

The island’s scenery has been captured by Louise Hill, a widely travelled artist originally from Kenya who now lives on Sark. Each stamp reproduces one of her watercolour paintings, depicting both the island’s dramatic coastal vistas and the intimate details of everyday rural life.

The stamps

The issue presents a series of views capturing Sark’s varied coastline and landmarks. La Grande Grève (75p) shows the island’s largest sandy beach, while Port du Moulin (97p) depicts a midsummer sunset over the pebble shoreline and famous arch. The iconic La Coupée (£1.45) highlights the narrow ridge linking Sark and Little Sark, and the Buddhist Carving (£1.54) reveals one of the island’s quieter hidden features set within the landscape.

Other designs reflect both rural life and maritime heritage. Cows & La Peigneurie (£1.90) portrays grazing cattle and open fields overlooking L’Etac, while Les Autelets & Brecqhou (£1.95) shows dramatic coastal rock formations. Creux Harbour (£2.96) presents a sheltered inlet enclosed by cliffs and Point Robert Lighthouse (£4.86) stands prominently on the eastern headland overlooking the sea.

Bridget Yabsley, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post, said: “Sark is one of the most distinctive islands in the British Isles, known for its unspoiled landscapes and traditional way of life. We are delighted to present this third stamp issue dedicated to the island; Louise Hill’s artwork beautifully captures both its dramatic scenery and the quiet charm that makes Sark so special.”
