Corgi
DAF 105 Flatbed and Skip Load- Paul Hinchcliffe Transport Ltd
PRICE £89.99 LIMIT 750 SCALE 1/50 REF NO CC14111

Paul Hinchliffe first established his company in 2004, and relied on a single DAF 95 which cost just £10,000. This move was born out of adversity, as the company for which he had previously driven had ceased trading three years earlier. The sad part was that it was a family business and Paul, being the grandson of one half of what was the renowned Bury-based haulier J & H Hinchliffe, drove for this concern for 16 years.

After a stint as a company driver, Paul decided to start his own firm, and eventually swelled his fleet with the incredibly smart DAF 105 portayed here by Corgi. It centres on a Super Space cab, bought from Glossop’s David G Davies, and the eye-catching livery was rendered by Taylor Commercials and sign-writing specialist David Plant.

Corgi’s scaled-down version, in 1/50, echoes the real machine beautifully. The traditional style of livery speaks for haulage history of old, with the English St George’s Cross and Scottish Saltire sitting proudly on the cab sides, along with ‘Lancashire’ titles. As printing goes, the standard is admirable, particularly regarding the fine white trim.

Chrome light banks are well-made and contrast well with the fetching red paint, and the rear of the cab (often neglected) also displays plenty to covet, such as the chrome exhaust stacks, further sign-writing and the classic coiled airbrake lines. A drive shaft adds to the underside detail, while the fuel tank, with its re dretaining bands, also stands out well.
