Extremely rare film poster sells for £18,000
An extremely rare first release British Quad film poster for the 1953 sci-fi classic War of the Worlds sold for £18,000 at the recent Aston’s Auctioneers Film & Music Memorabilia auction. Smashing the pre-auction estimate of £3,000-£5,000, this hammer price represents the biggest sale the auction house has seen. British quads for other popular sci-fi titles also broke pre-auction estimates. These included a Forbidden Planet first release from 1956 complete with Robby the Robot artwork, selling for £7,600 and a The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) first release hammering at £4,300 over an estimated of £2,000.
