TrueScale Models has released a pre-production image of the latest in its range of 1/43 models of the immortal Gunnar Porsche 966. Yet be officially launched (release date TBA), the Sunoco livery is iconic amongst sportscar racing enthusiasts worldwide.

The brainchild of Gunnar Racing owner Kevin Jeannette, the renowned Porsche restoration master craftsman, the 966 was built in 1990 using an ageing 'Chapman' 962 monocoque with bodywork styled on the Porsche 936 (hence the 966 designation) and was the first open-topped '962' to race.

TrueScale has released several of the earlier 966 liveries and the addition of the Sunoco variant completes the set apart from a couple of Daytona testing and the 1992 Miami Grand Prix colour schemes. The Sunoco sponsored car, evoking memories of the legendary Mark Donohue's Porsche 917-30, raced three time in these colours in the latter part of the 1993 IMSA series and was restored, but kept in these colours, in 2001. Still occasionally racing in historic events, the 966 is now owned by Lance Willsey but is kept at the Gunnar Racing workshop 'museum' in Florida.

This version is "very close to production quality" and looks to be another stunning release by Truescale. More news on this as soon as it is officially released.
