Special Auction Services reported another highly successful Trains Galore auction on 8th and 9th December 2011, with a total raised of more than £260,000, representing an increase of 30% on 2010's auction.
Both days saw a full house of bidders, in addition to international internet and telephone bidders.
Hugo Marsh of SAS comented: “The sale comprised of more than 1,200 lots, with strong and even spreads of OO and HO material, wide ranges of pre-war Hornby and Bassett-Lowke O gauge and some fine gauge 1 and large scale models.”
Some notable items included an Aster Gauge 1 two-rail electric Chesapeake & Ohio Class H8 2-6-6-6 'Allegheny' locomotive No1625 and bogie tender, with instructions and tools in original case, which sold for £6,800.
A centre-skate pick-up electric BR-liveried 'Black Five' locomotive No 45242 with tender, estimated at £1,500-2,500, sold for £5,000 (pictured top).
A Bing for Bassett-Lowke LSWR clockwork 0-4-4T M7 locomotive with maroon, black and yellow lining, sold for £2,400 against pre-sale estimates of £800-1,200 (pictured left).
Among the smaller scale locomotives, a OO gauge Wrenn Railways W2302 Coronation Class Pacific in LMS livery 'King George V1', in original box, sold for £650 against pre-sale estimates of £300-500.
This year's Trains Galore auction will take place on 5th December 2012.
