‘Hornby Visitor Centre’ Southeastern Hitachi Class 395
The Ramsgate Engineering Depot opened its gates to the public at the weekend where they were able to see the amazing engineering operation that takes place to keep the Southeastern Railway trains running.
The Ramsgate Engineering Depot opened its gates to the public at the weekend where they were able to see the amazing engineering operation that takes place to keep the Southeastern Railway trains running. As part of this very special occasion Southeastern took the opportunity to name one of their Hitachi Class 395 trains, ‘Hornby Visitor Centre’.
The naming ceremony took place on Saturday 8th June with David Statham, (Managing Director, Southeastern Railway), Mark Johnson (Engineering Director, Southeastern Railway) and Lyndon Davies (CEO, Hornby Hobbies Ltd) all in attendance.
Asked to comment, Lyndon Davies said that all at Hornby were honoured that Southeastern Railway had named one of their flagship trains ‘Hornby Visitor Centre’, especially as Hornby had moved back into its former offices at Westwood, Margate at the beginning of the year. He continued by saying: “this just underlines the fact that Hornby is very much part of the Thanet infrastructure”.
Following the naming ceremony Hornby Hobbies Ltd announced that the ‘Hornby Visitor Centre’ Southeastern Hitachi Class 395 will be produced as a train pack. Available from January 2020 this pack is available to pre-order now from the Hornby website, priced at £159.99.
