Diecast vehicles enjoyed a good day at Aston’s Toy Auction on Saturday 24th March at Dudley, West Midlands, with both individual items and larger quantities proving popular with the bidders.
The highlight was a scarce Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Y4-4 1930 Model ‘J’ Duessenberg, with white body, red chassis, black hood and seats, an excellent example in a very good window box, which sold at its top estimate of £1,000 (hammer prices are quoted to which buyer’s premium of 15% + VAT is added).
A good quantity of Models of Yesteryear totalling 41 pieces, including some large boxed special items, sold at £260, while a collection of 33 MoY Fire Engine models reached £340, both well above estimate.
There was high demand for Exoto 1/18 scale models with five Grand Prix Classics selling at £480 against pre-sale estimates of £80-120. Three cars, including two limited edition models signed by Martin Brundle, went at £550 against estimates of £50-70.
