While taking a trip to Aston's Toy Auctions in Dudley recently to get an exclusive preview of the fantastic Corgi artwork auction (stay tuned for that in the June issue of Collectors Gazette), auctioneer Nell Hilditch brought to our attention a rare Marklin submarine that's due to come up for sale on 17th April.

The Marklin Submarine U-Boat was made in the late 1920s or early '30s and is a clockwork tinplate model in two-one green wtih black trim and detailing, including railings, periscope, wheel, black rudder with red Marklin logo and flag with white ensign. Made for the UK market and measuring 16-inches the sub is in fantastic condition and appears to have never been submerged, plus it still includes the original box and instructions.

Nell told us: "It’s very rare to find them in this condition because usually they have been in the garden pond, and as a result fallen victim to rust! The boxes are also very fragile and hard to come by - this model was clearly well looked after and only to be admired from afar." Be prepared to see the submarine rise to four figures.

If you fancy becoming a member of the Thunderbirds then the same sale also includes a fab numberplate, along with the necessary documentation to use it on your own vehicle. Reading 'B100 FAB', it'll make the perfect present for any drivers of pink six-wheeled cars.
