Vectis feels the Force with unusual Star Wars item. ...
Normally when you hear of Star Wars collectables selling for a mint at auction, it's the unusual carded action figures, such as the unfortunately named Yak Face or Jawa with plastic cape. However, Vectis has recently sold a superb Palitoy Star Wars Shop Display that was previously used at the Golden Gains Toyshop in Wardwick, Derby. Estimated at £400-600 this intriguing piece of history sold for £460.

The item in question was a purpose-built table top chipboard and Perspex domed shop display unit, stamped to rear with 'Golden Gains Model 7/11 Wardwick Derby DE1 1HA (0332) 44822). It was used to promote the range of Star Wars toys during the 1970s/early '80s. Included in the display were some classic Star Wars vehicles from Palitoy - the Darth Vader TIE Fighter, X-Wing Fighter, Vehicle Maintenance Energiser, Tri-Pod Laser Cannon and Radar Laser Cannon.

Along with the vehicles there were also a number of 3 3/4" action figures, including Princess Leia Organa, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot, Luke Skywalker (Bespin), Biker Scout, R5-D4, Jawa, Snaggletooth, Hammerhead, Walrus Man, Greedo, Power Droid - plus packaging from Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, an Imperial Shuttle Pod and Han Solo (Hoth).
