An “outstanding” collection of more than 540 Hornby Dublo lots promises to be “one of the highlights in this year’s auction calendar” according to auctioneers UK Toy & Model Auctions. The fine selection is due to go under the hammer on Monday, 7th October and is already causing a stir among railway collectors.

All the pieces are from the same Derbyshire collector who had inherited some of the items from his father before collecting himself. As such, many of the items date back over the past 60 years and there are so many models the auctioneers are splitting the collection up into three separate auctions over the coming months.

Micheal Bond, who valued the Hornby Dublo for UK Toy & Model Auctions, told us: “There really are some very nice pieces in this collection and, although some are in playworn condition, others are almost mint and have never been run. There are even three diesel locomotives with the manufacturer’s wrap still around them.”

Some of the items to look out for in the auction include a pre-war clockwork Gresley in its box, a pre-war Southern tank engine, a rare plastic girder bridge and a replica of the City of Liverpool loco. The auction takes place at 11.30am on Monday, 7th October with viewing from 10am until 11.30am prior to the sale.
