Model cars are just Spot-on at recent Vectis auction

Spot-on seems to be enjoying a boom at present, and at a recent Vectis sale a No 195 Volkswagen Rally Car proved no different. In beige, with a grey interior and complete with figure, it ran on chrome cast hubs with black tyres. It also featured a chrome roof spotlight, racing number 6 decals on its doors and a Union Jack and chequered flag decal to the bonnet. Near mint, this beauty realised £624. A bit less (£504) closed out the bidding on No.256, the Jaguar Police Car in black. This was accompanied by two bobbies and aside from a couple of very minor roof marks, was almost mint. The car further benefited from a correct detachable black plastic "Police" roof sign and an aerial.

On the Dinky front, a couple of models that sold well were the No 140B/156 Rover 74 in cream with silver trim and fitted with green ridged hubs. Only good plus, this interesting colour combination sailed past the upper guideline of £70 to realise a thumping £648.

Equally contested was the No.171 Hudson Commodore Sedan Low-Line. This slice of Americana was fetching in two-tone turquoise and red and bore silver trim. Billed as excellent, aside from some very small marks on its protruding edges, it was enclosed in a yellow and red carded picture box with the correct colour spot. Estimated at £100-120, the car was in vogue on the day and finally stopped at £528.

A word from Denmark, to close. Amongst the Tekno diecasts was a Scania Vabis Articulated Truck bearing the rubric "Cold Matic Kolevogn."  Pretty in two-tone blue, pale grey and cream, overall it was near mint. Around £120 was expected for the pairing but it turned in £480 at the close of play.
