The Matchbox Club has announced it’s due to run two auctions featuring more than 800 models from the fantastic Ken Day Superfast Collection. The first one takes place at the end of July, while the second will be at the end of August. Both sales will feature some rare and highly collectable models – many of which are mint and boxed.

Ken began collecting Matchbox models back in the 1950s when Ray Bush was president of the Matchbox Club. He started to collect Models of Yesteryear and was one of the first 800 members of the club, which meant he qualified for the club’s special limited edition Y13 Crossley lorry.

Ken told us: “We moved to France in 1999 and I continued collecting 1-75 models, with some rare ones turning up at ‘vide-greniers’, the French equivalent of car boot sales. The import of new models seems to be limited after Mattel took over so I still look out for bargains when we come back to the UK.

“This bring me to the reason for selling this collection… I would like my fellow Matchbox collectors to benefit from the chance to add to their collection from my earlier Lesney collection and get as much enjoyment out of them as I have done over the years. I’m delighted that the Matcbox Club therefore has agreed to assist.”

Please visit the club website for more information, email or write to Matchbox Club, The Office, Ia Village, Oxton, Wirral, CH43 5SR and include your contact details.
