Limited Edition Scalextric Available to Pre-order Now

Scalextric has unveiled details on three limited edition sets heading your way later this year. In fact, they're being produced in such limited numbers that Scalextric is advising interested collectors to pre-order now to avoid missing out. What's more they're only available direct from Scalextric or selected retailers.

First up is the Lotus Renault GP R31 Bruno Senna (C3269A), which is limited to 1,500 pieces and costs £49.99. The Renault F1 Team was reborn as Lotus Renault GP for 2011 under a change of ownership and the signing of a major sponsorship deal with Lotus. The world of Formula One embraced the return of the iconic and distinctive black and gold livery that was last seen on track when Lotus and Renault joined forces back in the 1980s.

On 29th July the Brazilian Bruno Senna, nephew of the legendary 3-time Champion Ayrton Senna, made his first appearance for Lotus Renault GP by performing testing duties for the team on the Friday of the Hungarian GP. Bruno went on to secure his position as a race driver for the team for the remainder of the season and scored his first points in F1 by finishing ninth at the Italian GP.
This Scalextric Limited Edition model is fitted with a high performance 20,000rpm motor, hardened rear axles and enhanced decoration detail to the driver’s helmet.

Next in the line-up is the Classic Rallycross Champions (C32267A), limited to 3,000 pieces and costing £84.99. Towards the end of the Group B era of Rallycross, the duels between Martin Schanche (Metro 6R4) and Will Gollop (Ford RS200) passed into motorsport legend. Two of the closest fought seasons in the European Rallycross Championship produced a title apiece for the pair; Norwegian Schanche winning through in 1991 when Gollop’s challenge was ended by huge crash in the penultimate event.  Schanche later described the ’91 title as the ‘hardest won’ of his six championships.

The following year Gollop turned the tables on “Mr Rallycross”, but again there was great drama; Schanche receiving a two-race ban after stopping the Finnish round of the championship by standing in the track. Schanche then put substitute drivers in his Ford RS200 in a bid to take points from Gollop and the battle raged on when Schanche returned in the Summer. When Gollop finally put his name to the crown, the Englishman had the added satisfaction of doing so in Schanche’s ‘back yard’ in Norway.

For many fans, the Group B era – 1987 to 1992 – remains the golden period in the history of the European Rallycross Championship and Gollop-Schanche the most compelling rivalry.

Finally there's a set to celebrate 50 years of MGB (C32270A), which is limited to 3,500 and costs £49.99. First launched in May 1962, the MGB became the epitome of the modern British sportscar. The affordable MGB spawned many variants along the way; from a car originally intended to be a two seater replacement for the hugely successful MGA.

The GT version was announced in October 1965 and was an overnight success. The MGB was an all-new car in many respects and was distinguished by its unitary body and chassis structure. The monocoque construction allowed engineers more scope with design and layout of the passenger compartment.  The racing pedigree of the MGB swiftly emerged and the success that these, often only moderately tuned, MGBs had in racing, serves as testimony to their balance of performance and reliability.

In celebration of 50 incredible years of MGB and the legacy it imprints within British automotive history, Scalextric presents a tribute to the class win at the 1966 Targa Florio road race for the works MGB roadster, registration GRX 307D, known as ‘Old Faithful’ – because it never failed.  Driven by Timo Makinen and John Rhodes, the MGB finished 1st in the 1600cc class and 9th overall, with only the likes of Ferrari and Porsche ahead.
