LEGO has celebrated the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters by releasing a brick version of the iconic Ecto-1 vehicle from the film. Complete with Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore minifigures, the LEGO Ecto-1 consists of 508 LEGO pieces and boasts a full set of paranormal detection equipment, cool Ghostbusters logo decoration, removable roof and tracking computer.  With only a limited number of sets available worldwide, the model has an RRP of £44.99 from select stockists in the UK.

The set idea was presented to LEGO IDEAS (formerly Cuusoo) by fan and creator Brent Waller to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original film. The proposal was approved by LEGO earlier this year after bloggers and LEGO enthusiasts alike voted for the new range, helping it to reach the requisite 10,000 fan vote threshold. The item is the sixth user-designed and submitted product to be manufactured from the Cuusoo/ LEGO Ideas platform.

LEGO Ideas is the global idea collection platform that allows consumers to submit their ideas for new LEGO products. Submissions that receive 10,000 fan votes on LEGO.ideas.com are then reviewed quarterly by the company and considered for production. Other LEGO Ideas projects that have been produced for sale include: LEGO Back To The Future DeLorean, a LEGO NASA Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover, and the LEGO Shinkai 6500 submarine.

LEGO Ideas brand manager Andrea Wilson commented on the launch of the new LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1 set: “With the 30th anniversary this year, it was perfect timing to not only launch the Ghostbusters set, but to use it as the first product for LEGO Ideas. What makes the set so memorable is the fact that everyone recognises and identifies with the movie and its core characters. As the movie is so ingrained in popular culture, we felt that this set would highlight the core values of the LEGO Ideas brand – the ability to create something iconic, creative and fun!”

Andrea continued: “In the past with Cuusoo, LEGO were able to listen to its customers and create memorable and marketable toys, such as the Back to the Future DeLorean and the Shinkai 6500 submarine. This tradition will continue with LEGO Ideas and we are very excited to hear from consumers what the next project and product will be. Watch this space!”
