Bazinga! Great news for fans of Sheldon Cooper, complicated science jokes and celebrations of geekdom because LEGO has announced that one of the next sets from the LEGO Ideas project to go into production will be an official Big Bang Theory set.

LEGO Ideas allows brick-building enthusiasts to create their own designs and then submit them to LEGO. If the project gets 10,000 votes, then it will enter one of LEGO's quaterly reviews. Then it's assessed by designers, product managers and other key team members to see if the kit is viable for release.

The Big Bang Theory set was submitted earlier this year by Alatariel and fellow collabotator GlenBricker and it quickly gathered the 10,000 votes needed. Although no pricing or a release date has been announced, we expect to see it hitting shelves some time next year. It will join fellow LEGO Ideas sets inspired by Ghostbusters and Back to the Future.

Speaking about the announcement, LEGO said: "This LEGO set will be a true match made in scientific heaven (well, actually in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), because the brilliant characters in this popular American TV show appreciate LEGO bricks, and LEGO Ideas members Alatariel and collaborator GlenBricker (plus their 10.000 supporters) love both LEGO bricks AND The Big Bang Theory show! A huge congrats to Alatariel and GlenBricker!"

LEGO also announced that the LEGO Bird Project, which features models of different birds (as you might expect from the title) in order to teach adults and children about our feathered friends will be entering production too. More details and a release date are set to follow. You can see a video of the announcement below:
