Before we start this preview, we want to clear something up! You may often come across pictures on the internet saying "today is the day when Marty McFly arrives in the future in Back to the Future Part II", which will a) make you feel old and b) make you sad that you don't own a hoverboard. However, the actual day Marty McFly heads into the futuure is 21st October, 2015... so there's still plenty of time for someone to invent a hoverboard!

Anyway, with that out of the way, we'll commence with the preview. Hot Wheels Elite has followed up its previous 1/43 release of the Back to the Future Time Machine with a slightly reworked model. This replica is based on the car as seen in the sequel (Back to the Future Part II), which has been tweaked to include the Mr. Fusion fuel device at the rear, which provides power to the all-important Flux Capacitor. To be honest, it's a very subtle difference that isn't immediately obvious when the two models are side-by-side.

Elsewhere the detailing is spot-on, with plastic Time Machine components covering the length of the DeLorean and a tidy brushed metallic finish - there's even the addition of a futuristic rear number plate, rather than the old 'OUTTATIME' plate from the first film. Although we're impressed with this latest addition to the Cult Classics Collection, we must admit that we're tempted to wait for the 1/18 scale version, due for release next year. After seeing a very early prototype of that piece, it looks like it'll be superb... but if you can't wait until then, the 1/43 scale edition is a worthy choice for movie buffs.
