Following some speculation, the designers at Hornby have announced they are indeed developing a GWR 6000 'King' Class locomotive; C.B. Collett's powerful passenger loco that saw action from 1927 until 1962. Currently Hornby's first, fully detailed, Hornby King will be available from the third quarter in 2015 and further models will follow later that year.

The 2015 Hornby models will be R3331 GWR 4-6-0 'King James' 6000 Class (RRP £159.99), R3332 BR 4-6-0 'King Edward VIII' 6000 Class BR Late (RRP £159.99) and R3370TTS BR 4-6-0 'King Richard II' 6000 Class BR Early featuring TTS sound (RRP £179.99). Specification is as follows:

  • Fully detailed and painted cab
  • Five pole skew wound motor with scale speed gearbox
  • In tender decoder socket with TTS compatibility
  • In tender speaker mounting facility for TTS
  • Loco and tender wheel electrical pick-up
  • Separate hand rails
  • Additional parts allowing for late and early variations
  • Various internal cylinder covers
  • Sprung buffers
  • Brass axle bearings

Consumers and traders will able to pre-order the new locos in the months to come. In the meantime, take a look at CAD image above.
