A Lesney Matchbox 46b, the famous Beales-Bealesons Guy Removals version, in tan with silver detailing, proves yet again that you cannot keep a good promotional vehicle down. This one, in very good condition, in a card box, realised £340.
The Corgi Toys GS22 Golden Guinea Gift Set (comprising Ford Consul Classic, Bentley Continental Sports Saloon and Chevrolet Corvair in gold chrome finish were not mint and exhibited some degree of chipping. Some light pitting to the chrome was noted and the trio was contained in a good presentation box with inner card packaging. Despite these faults, this was overall a good example of a hard to find set, which finally sold for £180.
A West German Huki Motorcycle and Sidecar, from the 1950s, was a great example of tinplate. The motorcycle was finished in red with tin printed detail and balloon wheels, rider and passenger in tan clothing, complemented by a friction drive motor. Overall in good condition with a motor in working order, the model required attention and it was noted that the driver's arms and motorcycle handle-bars were missing. A crushed box with an illustrated label to the lid completed the lot which realised a healthy £180.
From Lehmann was a 760 Galop Racing Car. Tinplate again, with a clockwork motor, this was finished in yellow and blue with red hubs, racing number '1'. It boasted a tin printed interior, steering wheel and driver. At 14 centimetres long overall and showing a few light marks, here was a collectable example of German tinplate, which was bid to £260.
On to the UK: a Britains Set No.90 (Coldstream Guards), comprising an Officer, a kneeling Officer with binoculars, a bugler, a drummer, ten Guardsmen prone firing, four Guardsmen kneeling firing and six Guardsmen standing firing was a useful set. In a ROAN labelled box (but with damage to one corner of the lid) but with box insert, this generally very good set made £155.
Also sold was a childhood collection of Corgi Toys, with the models in a near mint state. They included the lovely little Corgi Toys 485 Surfing Gift Set with the BMC Mini Countryman, (turquoise with yellow interior, grey plastic aerial, spun hubs, chrome-plated roof rack, two surf boards and surfer figure). This example sold for £110.
And the star lot? That had to be the TRIX TTR pre-war Bassett Lowke designed - LMS 'Princes' Presentation Set No 2/344 and LNER the 'Scotsman' Presentation Set No 4/344 and Scale LMS Dining and LNER Restaurant Cars. All this was housed in a purpose-built, two drawer mahogany presentation box. Some transfer loss around the 'Princess' cabside number was noted, otherwise all contents were in excellent condition. The box and contents were believed to have been provided by Trix as a one-off presentation set for a retiring employee although no verifying documentation was available. This handsome lot chuffed off to make £825. ■
