In collaboration with renowned, Hastings-based collector-quality model maker SMTS, Diecast Legends has created a 1/18 replica of a Vanwall. But it’s not just any Vanwall, this is a high-detailed and accurate replica of the car that was shared by Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks at the 1957 British Grand Prix at Aintree.

In qualifying for the 1957 race, it was clear to Stirling that it was going to be a tough race, with the Maseratis of Fangio and Behra dominating proceedings. By the end of the first lap of the race, however, Moss was in the lead. On lap 25 he came into the pits with a misfire. He went back out but the problem persisted. Brooks, Moss’ team-mate, was called in and his car was passed to Stirling. Gradually, Moss worked his way up the field, taking the lead with 20 laps to go. It was Moss’s first British Grand Prix victory in a British car, although he had to share the championship points with Brooks.

SMTS began working on this project at the beginning of the 2018, and it is no exaggeration to suggest that it has been a labour of love for the team. The end result is a magnificent resin model, produced from highly accurate 3D files created in-house by SMTS’s digital design team.

Production is limited to just 500 pieces worldwide and SMTS expects to produce around 50 pieces per month, because each car is individually built by hand by a single, skilled and experienced modeller.
