If you fancy trying something a little different on the auction scene, then the Australian Trains, Planes and Automobiles’ Quiet Auction might be the one to seek out. This regular auction includes absentee bidding as well as live bidding via invaluable.com and the latest event began on July 24 (Ed: too late for the Gazette press day!).
Of course, you need to factor in shipping costs from Oz if you live in the UK, but that aside, there are bargains to be had. The latest sale included a good selection of Corgi and Dinky toys (some boxed, some not): the Corgi GS 24 (the Constructor set) was one of better lots, with an estimate of AU$200-300. Other notable Corgis included a trio of military vehicles (a VW personnel carrier, a police van and Commer canteen, with estimates ranging between A$40-200) whilst the Dinky contingent fielded a Gift Set 957, the Fire Service Set, with engine and Nash Rambler (A$300-400). An excellent Dinky 201 Racing Car set also appeared for those with deeper pockets at A$500-1,000.
