Company prepares to mark 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film. ...

With this year marking the 50th anniversary of the first ever James Bond movie (Dr. No) and the launch of the 23rd film, Skyfall, Corgi has announced it’s planning to celebrate by releasing a 1/36 scale replica model of the official movie car, the iconic Aston Martin DB5.

Since speeding onto our screens in the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger, the DB5 went on to appear in eight other movies, including Thunderball and the upcoming Skyfall. In fact, the car recently topped a poll as the most treasured object of the Bond franchise, ahead of Oddjob’s deadly bowler hat and ‘shaken, not stirred’ martinis.

Martyn Weaver, marketing manager for Corgi said: “We are delighted to bring this new offering to fans of the James Bond line. It is a privilege to capture a model with such iconic presence as the Aston Martin DB5 and we are sure that James Bond fans all over the world will enjoy the replica’s authentic qualities. By creating this type, we hope to provide fans with their own piece of movie history for them to enjoy for years to come.”

The Aston Martin DB5 is available to buy in August, priced at £15.99 (RRP). Although Corgi has a long association with the Bond franchise, this new model incorporates different tooling to match the specification of the Skyfall version.
