Cottees Auctions in Dorset continues to offer up an eclectic mix of items in its regular Collectable Toy and Model Railway Sales and the July auction was no different with dolls, diecast and even Doctor Who pieces all up for grabs by the eagle-eyed bidders.

On the diecast front Dinky performed well, with plenty of lots heading over their top estimates, proving there’s still life in the classics. The top result on the day was £300 (more than double the top estimate) for a Dinky Supertoys No. 908 Mighty Antar with Transformer. Despite having one plastic transformer fitting glued back on, the bidders were undeterred.

Another tidy Dinky lot was a No. 424 Commer Convertible Articulated Truck with yellow cab, complete with three plastic Dinky Toys crates – just the thing for delivering new models to your imaginary toyshop. In good to very good condition, complete with a good to fair lift-up lid box, the auctioneer accepted bids from all Commers and it made £160.

Elsewhere an unusual treat was provided by a Doctor Who and the Daleks lunch bag. You could have certainly packed a lot of sandwiches in this 38cm bag, which also came with a Thermos flask, four red plastic cups and four saucers. You’d be the envy of everyone in the school canteen producing this at lunchtime! Estimated at £150 to £250, the lunch bag sold for £260… so the new owner might have to settle for Spam sandwiches for a while.
