“Everyone who has come in to preview has commented that this is going to be one of the best sales we’ve ever had, and I would definitely agree,” commented Bertoia Auctions’ owner, Jeanne Bertoia. “The quality is very high across the board, with consignments from prestigious collections in every category.”

There is a very peculiar US affinity for money boxes and collectors of the genre will not be disappointed: in all, almost 100 will be up for grabs, including a Lion Hunter, a Punch ‘n Judy version and a Boy Scout Camp. If tinplate is more your line, then the Mickey Mouse example may well appeal.
Pressed steel automotive toys will also feature in strength: the auction will have around 140 for sale to new owners whilst railway buffs will doubtless be drooling over the 2 inch and standard gauge fare that goes under the hammer. As if that were not enough, Bertoia will be auctioning a 1910 tinplate Marklin model of Churchbury Station  in immaculate condition: it has come straight from the owner and is expected to realise US$20,000. ■
