A pair of vintage Bing model railway collectables stole the show during the Toy & Collectors' Models auction at Lacy, Scott & Knight on 8th February - with one making more than 16 times its top £200 pre-sale estimate!

The lot in question was included a Bing GIII 1901 L&NWR Express bogie brake and guards van No. 639 Catalogue No. 17893/2 with opening to hinged doors, hinged roof and fitments in guards compartment, lamp over one ducket missing, with 1st class Express bogie coach Catalogue No. 17793/2 with 8 hinged doors and hinged roof, 4 compartments with seats and hat racks, both end panels loose, one buffer missing, considerable chips and scratches. Estimated at £150 to £200, the coaches made a whopping £3,300!

Another brilliant Bing item was a GIII 1901 live steam black 4-4-0 LNWR King Edward on brass plates over splashers No. 7093 on cab sides with the first Bing "Lady" trademark on oval metal plate on rear, nearside cab steps bent, with 6 wheel LNWR tender, nearside steps loose, coal rail loose on nearside, coupling to loco broken - although it was still considered to be in good condition. Estimated at £1,200 to £1,800 it realised a whopping £4,700.

However, the most expensive lot of the sale was a 1/10 scale model of a complete steam fair (pictured), constructed mainly from wood and hand painted to a very high standard, which realised £7,000. However, bidding was halted at £5,800 when the auctioneer was plunged into darkness after an electricity failure.
