The Royal Mail is to release a series of stamps and a very special miniature sheet celebrating several of the classic puppet shows created by Gerry Anderson.

Issued on 11th January 2011, FAB: The Genius of Gerry Anderson, will mark the 50th anniversary of Gerry Anderson’s ground-breaking puppet show, ‘Supercar’, which launched in 1961.

The single stamps, ranging in value from 1st Class to 97p, feature some of the much-loved characters and vehicles from six of Gerry Anderson’s most popular shows: ‘Supercar’, ‘Fireball XL5’, ‘Stingray’, ‘Thunderbirds’, ‘Captain Scarlet’ and ‘Joe 90’.

In addition to the individual stamps, Royal Mail is also issuing a four-stamp miniature sheet (a small sheet of stamps with a pictorial border) featuring Royal Mail’s first ever ‘motion stamps’.

The sheet, which uses lenticular printing technology to animate the stamp design, is dedicated to Anderson’s most famous creation, ‘Thunderbirds’. The stamp uses lenticular images to ‘play’ the launch scenes from the famous ‘Thunderbirds’ title sequence when you tilt the angle of the stamps. Very clever.
