The continued attraction of an item found through TV’s Antiques Roadshow was proved yet again when a tinplate container in the shape of a No 307 London Tramcar was sold for £4,500 (hammer price) at the Lacy Scott & Knight sale held at Bury St Edmunds on 14th August.
The Tramcar, showing route destination 67 (667) between Hammersmith and Hampton Court, was manufactured for the Victory V Company for its famous cough lozenges. Adverts for them appear on the side of the tinplate vehicle. Once these containers had been emptied of their contents, they were often given to children to play with so the survival of one in reasonable
condition is quite something and two bidders were happy to battle for this one!
