Matchbox Top 10 survey results are now in
The results are in for the Top 10 Matchbox Model survey, run by the Matchbox International Collectors’ Association. An international survey that was open to all Matchbox collectors, whether a member or not, there were over 14,000 entries. ...
The results are in for the Top 10 Matchbox Model survey, run by the Matchbox International Collectors’ Association. An international survey that was open to all Matchbox collectors, whether a member or not, there were over 14,000 entries. The overall winner was the first issue of the Y4 Dusenberg.
The full results were as follows:
1. White Y4 Dusenberg
2. Maroon Y16 Spyker
3. Pale blue Y6 Osram Lorry
4. 13d Dodge 'BP' Lorry in reversed colours
5. Soap Box Racer
6. Large Euclid Quarry Truck
7. Y12 Thomas with yellow plastics
8. Y7 Jacobs with BPW
9. Purple Y11 Lagonda
10. Red 45a Vauxhall Victor
The Y4 Dusenberg received 1,035 while the Y16 Spyker scored 821. Rounding off the top three, the Y6 Osram Lorry was the only other model with a score of 500+, receiving 556.
While 110 models scored 10+ points in the survey, the majority of nominations were for Models of Yesteryear models.
The Matchbox International Collectors’ Association also calculated the overall value of the models: “If you bought these when they were originally sold, you would have spent the equivalent of £1 per model. Auctioning them a few decades later would give you a return that does not seem to be plausible, let alone real: 3,349 times your original investment!”
