The jewellery collection of the late Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor has sold for a record-setting $115 million at a recent Christie’s auction.

The sale included the famous piece of jewellery known as ‘La Peregrina’, a pearl, diamond and ruby necklace that managed to shatter its $2m-3m estimate by achieving a world record price of $11,842,500.

The necklace was bought for Taylor by her then husband, Richard Burton, who purchased it at auction in 1969 for $37,000 – a 32,000% increase in sale price in just over 40 years.

Elsewhere, a diamond bracelet given to Taylor by the late Michael Jackson sold for $194,500. All prices include the buyer’s premium.
