Today, British stamps are colourful creations that celebrate all kinds of achievements, anniversaries and events, but things may have been different if it wasn’t for the experimental album produced by designer David Gentleman in the 1960s. Thanks to his work and the ideas of the then Postmaster General Tony Benn – both of whom took time out to speak to us for our in-depth feature in July's issue – the format, size and attitude to stamps changed forever.
