Sir Bobby on the face, and his teams on the reverse
The Royal Mint released a commemorative medal which celebrates the life of football legend Sir Bobby Robson and supports the Sir Bobby Robson foundation for cancer research.
The commemorative medal, priced at £9.99, is struck in cupro-nickel to Brilliant Uncirculated standard and comes with a fully illustrated presentation pack. 50p from the sale of each of the 50,000 medals will be donated to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Sir Bobby earned the first of his twenty England caps in 1957, scoring twice against France on his debut. However, he is perhaps best remembered for his successful spell as England manager, during which he led England to the semi-finals of Italia ‘90, the team’s biggest success in the World Cup since 1966. Sir Bobby died of cancer in 2009, just a week after watching the original 1990 World Cup squads and guests replay the fateful World Cup semi-final in the Bobby Robson Trophy Match.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation is his legacy, and continues to raise much-needed funds for cancer research. For more information on the commemorative medal, contact The Royal Mint, telephone: 0845 60 88 222
