The Wye Valley Miniaturists Club was founded in early 1996. We have 35 members who range from those who are just starting their collection and others who have a number of houses and room boxes. The focus of our club is on helping all members to learn new skills and we do this through external speakers and workshops led either by outside experts or members of our own group who have skills to share. We normally meet on the fourth Sunday afternoon of every month, from 2.30 p.m. – 5.00 p.m., but occasionally we have talks and demonstrations at other times. Our Sunday afternoon meetings are held in the Westfields Hall in Highmore St, Hereford HR4 9PG whilst our all day meetings are held at the Young Farmers Club in Tillington Road, Hereford, HR4 9QJ.
We organise a Dollshouse Fair in October each year to raise funds for Acorns Children's Hospice which is the local hospice for life-limited children. Our next Fair will be held on October 2012. We have donated more than £20,000 to the Hospice since 2003. The Dollshouse Fair is held at Bartestree Village Hall, Bartestree, Hereford HR1 4BY. We have a good selection of traders who attend and the Fair is known for the display put on by club members. Each year we choose a theme for our project which is then displayed at the Fair. Our projects have included a ball-room, the sea-side, theatres, book-boxes, shops, memory-boxes, follies, scenes in a suitable container... We pride ourselves on the home-made refreshments that we offer at the Fair. We organise a raffle with many prizes including a 1/12 scale dolls house.
