Having held more toy auctions than ever during 2011, Aston’s of Dudley is looking forward to an even busier New Year when its newly refurbished Grade II saleroom re-opens for business in January.

Certainly its last Toy Auction of 2011, held on Saturday 10th December, upheld the broad interest in a wide range of collectable items with some outstanding results across the sections.

An original Scalextric 007 James Bond set exceeded expectations when it sold at a hammer price of £1,000 (buyer’s premium at 15% plus VAT is payable in addition to these prices), way above pre-sale estimates of £600-800. Another highlight was the Corgi Toys Gift Set 48 Car Transporter with six cars, which sold for £950.

The railway section included Aston’s largest ever selection of G scale garden railway items with a single owner collection of American and European LGB locomotives and 500ft of track.

A 1998 30th Anniversary LGB Limited Edition 70642 Rhatische Bahn Set with Ge4/4111 ‘Maienfeld 641’ overhead electric locomotive and two coaches, boxed with certificate, sold for £400.

There was also a large choice of Steiff bears with the pick being a 407239 Teddy Bear 1926 replica limited edition, which sold for £260. Another section featured numerous bisque dolls with a large group of miniature dolls selling for £900.

The first Toy Sale of 2012 at Aston’s saleroom at Baylies’ Hall, Dudley, will be on Saturday 28th January, following the grand reopening of its Georgian premises after the completion of building work and redecorating. The sale, which is already full, includes a fine collection of Matchbox 1-75 Series diecasts plus some original Airfix artwork.
